For years, I thought my jaw was destined to cause me pain forever.

My TMJ would pop and click if I opened too wide.

It ached whenever I ate chewy foods.

If I held something in my mouth, you could see how crooked my jaw joints were.

It all got worse when I had a glass of wine in the evening or breathed through my mouth at night—I’d wake up with a sore jaw, face, and even ear pain. Some mornings, it felt like I’d gone a few rounds in a boxing match while I slept.

For a long time, this was my everyday reality.

What I Tried (and Why It Wasn’t Enough)

Like many of my clients, I tried the usual recommendations:

  • Nightguards from the dentist – They helped protect my teeth, but they didn’t stop the clenching. Some nights, they even made my jaw ache more.
  • Specialist visits – A chiropractor once told me my jaw was hopeless. Others focused only on structure, not the underlying problem.
  • Conventional dental care – I brushed, flossed, and followed all the “rules,” but none of it touched the daily pain.

On paper—and through the eyes of conventional dentistry—I should have been stuck with TMJ pain forever.

But I’m not.

The Turning Point

What I learned (and now teach my clients) is that TMJ pain isn’t just about jaw joints, teeth, or bite alignment.

It’s about stress.

It’s about being stuck in survival mode.

And it’s about how your nervous system and breathing patterns impact tension in your jaw.

Here’s the truth: the more I focused on “fixing” my jaw, the worse it got. My fear and frustration were actually fueling the tension.

Once I shifted my focus to functional breath training, creating safety in my body, and calming my nervous system, the pain started to fade. Today, I live and function daily without jaw pain—and I want you to know the same is possible for you.

Why This Matters for You

If you’ve been told:

  • “There’s nothing more we can do.”
  • “It runs in your family.”
  • “Just wear your nightguard.”

…please hear me: you are not destined to suffer in pain forever.

When your body is stuck in stress mode, it fuels the pain cycle. But when you learn how to gently shift out of survival mode, it can feel like flicking a switch—the tension eases, and the pain doesn’t control you anymore.
